As I sat eating Friday at a local Indian restaurant, I was beset by a nasty taste in my mouth, a sick feeling in my stomach, and a desire to take a huge dump. But it wasn’t the food…it was my disgust at a front page L.A. Times article on right-wing thug and liar Andrew Brietbart. Some of you might ask who this sleazeball is. Well, let me enlighten you. Breitbart is a wingnut blogger who posted the highly-edited videotape of Shirley Sherrod that misrepresented her as a racist, the result beingher being forced out of her position at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Breitbart has been largely unrepentant in this matter, which shouldn’t be much of a surprise given his track record. This knuckle-dragger also was involved in the smearing of ACORN, alleging that the group was assisting people in setting up houses of prostitution and involved in vote-fraud. Investigations of the group (which was established in the 1970s to advance the interests of low income people) found no basis to the outrageous charges. Regardless, the Congress — under pressure from the always easily mislead and crazed wingnut masses — defunded the group, and now ACORN is shutting down operations. And for a decade, Breitbart worked for the Drudge Report, a long-time, popular right-wing smear website.

Like so many other media entities, the L.A. Times is desperate to avoid allegations of “liberal bias.” Thus, the editorial pages are filled with ridiculous rants by the likes of Jonah Goldberg, and we get big, wet, sloppy kiss profiles of loathsome characters like Breitbart. Even though it was clearly designed to be a puff piece, some revealing facts about this liar emerged. Like so many other conservatives, he grew up in a pampered environment, attending of a couple of L.A.’s most exclusive, private schools. He also spent a number of years at the Drudge Report working without a paycheck, apparently being subsidized during this period by his father-in-law, the insufferable 1960s/70s “comedian” Orson Bean (sounds like a real “man of the people” type, right?). This little nugget was also delicious. While boozing it up at Santa Monica’s swanky Shutters Hotel, this thug became incensed by a group of protesters nearby, and angrily flipped them off. Breitbart assumed that they were anti-war protesters, but instead were protesting policies of the Ugandan government. Apparently the idea of people peacefully engaged in their constitutional right to promote an idea like peace is outrageous to this thug, and deserves a vulgar hand gesture.
How pathetic, but also how typical of the boorish behavior of those on the right, nowa days.
